The Foo Fighters got their undies in a bundle over Marvel using segments from several tracks on a promotional video for their upcoming animated series Wolverine and the X-Men. Rolling Stone broke the story saying:
It seems like a bad idea to pick a fight with Spider-Man, Wolverine and the rest of the Marvel Universe, but that’s exactly what Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters are doing, as the band is suing the comic book giant for copyright infringement. The band alleges that Marvel used “substantial excerpts” of their songs “Best of You” and “Free Me” as the music for the trailer of the new animated series Wolverine and the X-Men.
First off, WTF is with this Wolverine and the X-Men bullshit? Is it Superman and the Justice League? Or Iron man and the Avengers? Homer and the Simpsons? Jessica Alba and the Fantastic Four? No. These are all GROUPS…there’s no “I” in team; or in “X-men” for that matter, so drop this Wolverine non-sense and just call it X-Men. You want to make a Wolvie centric series to tie in and bank on the origin movie, fine; it Weapon X or Logan’s Run then. Cyclops, Beast, Rouge, Emma, Nightcrawler and Storm (I’ll give you Shadowcat) are not secondary characters to the canuck; so knock it off. As Sir Ian McKellen said “Once again, you think it’s all about you.”
Secondly, shame on you Marvel. How hard would it have been to call up the boys and ask them for their permission to use the tracks in an internal promotional video? Maybe tossing in there “we’re starting to work on the soundtracks for Iron man and Punisher 2; our guys will call your guys soon to talk.” And on the flip side why are the Foo Fighters suing and kicking up a stink? It’s a promotional video that was leaked on the net; so what. Want to ruin your chances of working with the potentially most successful studio this year?
But that’s just my two pents. This is Fran from Fran and the Circle of Jerks signing off…

I guess I am of the opinion that Marvel should no better… not like they don’t have the $$.
And yeah, it is “X-Men,” not “One Guy and the Rest.”
Nice post.
