Bloody Omaha

April 4th, 2008

The sophistication of shoestring film making is not a new thing, but to get a behind the scenes look at the process is a rare gift.

For anyone with an interest in film, WWII, or just watching three guys pull-off something awesome, here is a clip of three graphic designers from the UK who created a reenactment of the D-day Invasion of Omaha Beach for the BBC/History Channel series “Timewatch.”

I’ll let the video speak for itself…

“How are we supposed to make money on the Internet?”

The thesis statement of last night’s episode of South Park. And while some episodes are certainly better than others, every episode of South Park guarantees a classic moment.

Last night? Well, some may say it was the epic battle royale between Internet celebs Tay Zonday, Chris Crocker, the Numa Numa Guy, Tron Guy, Sneezing Panda, Shocking Prairie Dog, etc. To me, when Butters is involved, it IS a classic… and here it is. Butters doing his own version of the Samwell YouTube classic, What What (In the Butt). Click here to see the original.

Viva!

Under Cuba’s “new” president, Raul Castro, Cubans can now get their hands on some new gadgets: DVD players, motorbikes and electric rice cookers. Until now, these good were only available to foreigners.

And of course, in true Soviet fashion:

Lines stretch out the doors of major government department stores as Cubans gaze at the new gadgets on display.

Unfortunately, Cubans will have to wait for computers and microwaves, but word has it that they will be sold soon. Sorry…

But then again, there will now be a home for all of those unwanted copies of Battlefield Earth on DVD. And next year, Cubans will get all of our unwanted HD-DVDs!!!

The circle of life…

Camp Michael McDonald

April 2nd, 2008

I have no other reason to post this other than the fact that this is one of the funniest things to ever air on Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

Anyone who remembers this sketch is on my “good list,” forever…

Cane Toad

From the Associated Press:

An Australian politician on Wednesday proposed designating a special day for residents to hunt and kill what he called one of the world’s most disgusting creatures: the poisonous cane toad.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has said it backs the plan by Queensland state lawmaker Shane Knuth to launch “Toad Day Out,” but only if the creatures are killed in a humane way, such as euthanizing them in a freezer.

That’s right, kiddies, Australia is planning it’s own “Whacking Day,” but make sure you set your target on those pesky chazzwassers and not the snakes.

If only Barry White were still with us, we could use an even more humane method of driving away the amphibians.

I love the sexy slither of a lady-snake.

Long before the Apple “I’m a Mac/I’m a PC” ads ate-up the airwaves, Jeff Goldblum was THE Mac Guy. And who better to pitch a computer than “The Blumage,” with his unmistakable persona and tone. (Well, maybe The Walken, but I’ll save that proposal for later.)

But what if you slowed down the ad just a bit? Well, you get a drunken Jeff Goldblum hocking Macs.

Kinda makes me want to watch Jurassic Park slowed down just a bit. Oh, and remember…He really is...

Boom! Head Shot!

April 2nd, 2008

While not exactly “Game over man, game over”; a heavy blow has been delivered on behalf of happy go lucky gamers everywhere against right-wing, “video games are the work of the devil”, communist lobbyists. Today The British Psychological Society has issued the following press release; titled “Link between online gaming and violence killed off“.

People who play violent games online actually feel more relaxed and less angry after they have played.

This is the finding of Miss Jane Barnett and her colleagues at Middlesex University. Their results were presented at the British Psychological Society’s Annual Conference in Dublin on Wednesday 2 April 2008.

The psychologists recruited 292 male and female online gamers, playing the game World of Warcraft. The players, aged between 12 and 83 years, were asked to complete a questionnaire on anger, aggression and personality and then played the game for two hours.

After this time they were they were asked to complete the test again.
The psychologists found overall the gamers were more likely to feel calm or tired after playing - but there were differences depending on sex, age and personality.

Miss Barnett said: “There were actually higher levels of relaxation before and after playing the game as opposed to experiencing anger but this did very much depend on personality type.

“This will help us to develop a emotion and gaming questionnaire to help distinguish the type of gamer who is likely to transfer their online aggression into everyday life.”

LOLZ, joo gotz pwnxxor'd!!!

Ah, the RickRoll. One of the greatest ways to strike back on the Intarwebs. (If you don’t know what a RickRoll is click here, ya n00b.)

YouTube has decided to RickRoll its visitors by directing all clicks of featured videos from the home page to Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” What a way to celebrate April Fool’s Day.

I have to admit a certain affinity for the Rick Roll. Just a good gag. But what truly warms the cockles of my heart is the fact that Astley, as he explains in an interview with Wired, loves the Rick Roll:

It’s a bit strange anyway, to be honest, to have videos of when you were a young guy out on the internet, do you know what I mean? I’m 42 years old now, so it’s a little bit weird anyway. But it’s funny. It makes me laugh — I’m sure it really annoys a lot of other people — but it’s made me laugh occasionally.

Got to love the fact the he has a good sense of humor about the whole thing. Then again, if it helps get food on the table and help him trim back his hours at Tesco, I would be happy too.

“Vagina Power”

April 1st, 2008

Every now and then, a YouTube clip lands in your inbox that makes you want to laugh until you cry and scratch your head at the same time. Well, folks, here is one of those clips.

It is a cable access show out of Atlanta called “Vagina Power,” hosted by Alexyss K. Tylor. Now, cable access shows are notorious for giving society’s craziest folks a soap box, but this takes the cake.

The clip is long, but so very worth it. And I wish I could tell you the point of her speech, but I watched it twice and STILL have no idea what she is trying to say. Basically, it is about how the penis has power over women… with a little NSFW language thrown-in for good measure. But if you decide to watch this at work, just tell you boss that it is a clinical discussion of sex and how it impacts the community… and why men won’t buy you shrimp from Long John Silvers BUT WILL sex-up your mouth and your rectum. *Shrug*

Picnic Lover

Police in Ohio say that a married father of three has confessed to repeatedly having sex with his patio picnic table.

Art Price, Jr., 40, has been charged with four counts of public indecency after a neighbor videotaped him getting all nasty with the umbrella hole in the middle of his plastic picnic table. Apparently preferring the table’s legs in the air, Price reportedly flipped the table over before forcing himself inside of it.

Price admitted that his skeevy antics took place both inside and outside of his home, and police say he did his table humping in broad daylight, not far from a school.

In addition to public outrage, we imagine there’s considerable jealousy among Price’s other lawn furniture. While barbecues and lawn chairs don’t have many places for good loving (unless you’re big enough for that drink holder), we’re sure that plastic gnome hiding in the hedges is wondering why he wasn’t chosen. The garden hose, however, is probably pretty relieved.
